We spotted a problem and got to work

Co-Founder, Zack Quinn

Founder, Zack Quinn, has always been a builder. From installing a new door at 14 to tackling big projects in his 20s and renovating a first home with his partner Katarina, he’s carried a deep love for DIY. A natural leader, he thrived at jet‑engine maker Pratt & Whitney—building across engineering, manufacturing, and even rethinking hiring in HR. Zack is the kind of guy who spots an opportunity to improve—and can’t wait to help others join the journey.

After years of aerospace‑level precision, he saw a glaring problem: the waste baked into DIY. The average American home holds $3,000 in tools that sit idle 95% of the time. Scaled up, that’s $60 billion in underused tools. Millions of lithium‑ion batteries never cycled. Tons of steel left to rust. Plastics produced only to end up in landfills. And beyond tools, the typical home project wastes 10% of raw materials—double that for DIY.

Meanwhile, DIY is booming. It wasn’t just a Covid‑era fad; demand for home improvement keeps growing.

So Zack asked: What if there was a better way?

That’s where Toolio was born—project‑based tool rentals.

Tool rentals already support a circular economy, keeping products in play instead of in landfills. But traditional rental centers don’t serve most DIYers. Renting a Bobcat or stump grinder might skip a purchase, but it rarely solves the whole problem.

Take 2023: Zack’s younger brother rented an aerial lift for tree trimming. After a five‑minute demo, he was on his own. Within 30 minutes, the machine was stuck in mud. Within five minutes of trimming, sawdust was in their eyes. The “$1,500 rental” quickly added $100 for a chain and winch, $50 for plywood footings, and $10 for safety gear. They would have gladly paid more upfront for the right gear and guidance to avoid the mess altogether.

That’s the Toolio difference: project‑based rentals that set you up for success—not just with tools, but with everything you need to finish the job right.

What you’ll find today

Along the way, Zack has teamed up with builders, engineers, and mentors who share his vision—from early collaborators who helped shape the first business plans (especially Nathan Ruff), to the hands that coded Toolio’s first platform (Cody Sheridan), to seasoned founders guiding the way forward (especially Mike Depace). Together, they’re building more than a company—they’re building a better way to DIY.

Toolio is DIY, Delivered. A whole new experience in home improvement, with all the hard work—but far fewer battle scars.

Access Over Ownership. Always.

Our Vision

DIY is transformed into a reliable, sustainable, and accessible experience for homeowners nationwide—raising the bar so that on-time, on-budget, zero-waste project completion becomes the norm and frustration the exception.

For DIYers, better homes is why we start.

This is our founder, Zack Quinn, with his partner Katarina. They share a big smile after taking on a full home remodel that ended in a French‑inspired kitchen. It took a few months of weekends – and nothing beats the feeling of a job well done.
From our home to yours, we hope to make your next project a little easier.

With Toolio, it’s DIY, Delivered.

Build What Matters. Leave Less Behind.

Our Commitment To A Sustainable Future

We’re not here to preach. We’re here to solve.
Every rental reduces demand for new production, keeps tools moving, and helps people build more with less. Sustainability shouldn’t be a separate conversation. It should be baked in from the start.
That’s the Toolio model.
