Our Story
Toolio was founded by Zack Quinn and Nathan Ruff in 2024. Zack and Nathan met while completing their MBA at Babson College and connected over a shared passion for DIY. Nathan has taken on projects at nearly every place he has lived in and Zack is a meticulous builder who loves to get the details right. Together they recognized the value of renting tools instead of buying them. They began to work on their idea and recognized they needed to get one thing right – for DIYers to use it, the process had to be easier than anything else on the market. With Toolio, Zack and Nathan have created a model which seamlessly arms DIYers with the tools needed to be successful – the simplest way to DIY.
Alongside our mission of serving DIYers – we are deeply moved by a call to find solutions to help the environment. The construction and DIY industry is especially wasteful. Across the world, the market for new tools is nearly 30 times that of tool rentals. This isn’t a problem on its own – but tools owned by DIYers typically sit idle nearly 90% of their lifespan – and a typical tool collection can easily cost thousands of dollars. This is like buying a car and driving it less than 1000 miles per year; its both financially wasteful and resource wasteful. By offering unique value, we believe Toolio can make a change in the model of accessing tools.
